Time-of-Use prices (winter hours)
Most Ontario homes are on Time-of-Use. The price depends on when you use the power. These are the winter hours, which run from November 1 to April 30.
| Period | Hours | From Nov 1, 2026 | Nov 1, 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Off-peak | Weekdays 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., all day on weekends and holidays | 9.1¢ | 9.8¢ | −0.7¢ |
| Mid-peak | Weekdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. | 14.6¢ | 15.7¢ | −1.1¢ |
| On-peak | Weekdays 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. | 18.9¢ | 20.3¢ | −1.4¢ |
In summer (May 1 to October 31) the mid-peak and on-peak hours swap: on-peak is weekdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and mid-peak is weekdays 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Off-peak hours are the same all year.
Ultra-Low Overnight prices
Ultra-Low Overnight suits people who can move most of their use to the night, such as charging an electric car. The hours are the same all year.
| Period | Hours | From Nov 1, 2026 | Nov 1, 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra-low overnight | Every day 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. | 3.7¢ | 3.9¢ | −0.2¢ |
| Weekend off-peak | Weekends and holidays 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. | 9.1¢ | 9.8¢ | −0.7¢ |
| Mid-peak | Weekdays 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. | 14.6¢ | 15.7¢ | −1.1¢ |
| On-peak | Weekdays 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. | 37.7¢ | 39.1¢ | −1.4¢ |
Tiered prices and thresholds
On Tiered pricing you pay one price for a set amount of electricity each month and a higher price above it. For homes the threshold is 1,000 kWh a month from November 1 to April 30, and 600 kWh from May 1 to October 31. For businesses and farms it is 750 kWh all year.
| Tier | Home, winter | From Nov 1, 2026 | Nov 1, 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | First 1,000 kWh a month | 11.2¢ | 12.0¢ | −0.8¢ |
| Tier 2 | Above 1,000 kWh a month | 13.2¢ | 14.2¢ | −1.0¢ |
The Ontario Electricity Rebate is smaller
The Ontario Electricity Rebate is a credit set by the Ontario government. It comes off the whole bill before HST, for homes, small businesses and farms. From November 1, 2026 it falls from 23.5% to 15.7%.
For a typical home using 700 kWh a month, the OEB says the rebate will be about $23 a month. Last year it put the same rebate at about $36. The OEB says the rebate can shrink because electricity prices are falling, and that the overall rate of increase for bills will stay consistent with previous years. It does not give a dollar figure for the total bill change.
Worked examples
These are our own sums on the Electricity line only, using the OEB prices above. Delivery, regulatory charges, HST and the rebate are not included, because they depend on your utility.
| Example | From Nov 1, 2026 | Before |
|---|---|---|
| A home on Tiered using 700 kWh in a winter month (all in Tier 1) | $78.40 | $84.00 |
| Charging an electric car, 300 kWh a month overnight, on Ultra-Low Overnight | $11.10 | $11.70 |
| The same 300 kWh overnight on Time-of-Use off-peak | $27.30 | $29.40 |
The car example shows why the plan choice matters: the same overnight charging costs $16.20 a month more on Time-of-Use than on Ultra-Low Overnight. Ultra-Low Overnight only pays if you can avoid the 37.7¢ weekday evening peak. The OEB has a bill calculator to compare plans with your own use.
How to switch plans
You stay on your current plan unless you ask to change. To switch between Time-of-Use, Ultra-Low Overnight and Tiered, fill in your utility's election form, from its website or by calling it. Retail contracts with an energy company are not covered by these prices.
